you&#8217;ve probably been present to several stories about Drill Instructors and the things they did during boot camp.<\/div>\n<div><!--block--><\/div>\n<div><!--block-->This is one of those stories.<\/div>\n<div><!--block--><\/div>\n<div><!--block-->During boot camp, recruits have to keep their belongings and personal area in an absolutely specific way.\u00a0 If they waiver from this &#8211; it&#8217;s brought to the attention of everyone.\u00a0 Depending on the Drill Instructor and\/or several other factors &#8211; the person directly responsible will be punished or they might punish the entire squad.<\/div>\n<div><!--block--><\/div>\n<div><!--block-->While doing an inspection &#8211; a Drill Instructor found a Foot Locker with its lock unlocked.\u00a0 He reprimanded the recruit for leaving it unlocked and then proceeded to tell the entire squad why he was doing so.\u00a0 Stealing from another recruit was absolutely forbidden &#8211; Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/mightylinetape.com\/safetytips\">MightyLineTape.com\/SafetyTips<\/a> to request a Sample Pack of their incredible Safety Signs and Floor Markings.<\/div>\n<div><!--block--><\/div>\n<div><!--block-->Now back to the Podcast&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Chances are, your facility isn&#8217;t run like a platoon in Boot Camp.\u00a0 And although you might FEEL as if they&#8217;re super tough, it&#8217;s also likely your management don&#8217;t behave like Drill Instructors.<\/p><\/div>\n<div><!--block--><\/div>\n<div><!--block-->What IS similar to the above-mentioned story is preventing issues\/accidents BEFORE they&#8217;re able to happen.<\/div>\n<div><!--block--><\/div>\n<div><!--block-->So how do we do it?\u00a0 By implementation of The 5S Methodology.<\/div>\n<div><!--block--><\/div>\n<div><!--block-->Sometimes we single out a specific &#8220;S&#8221; &#8211; but in the case of prevention, the entire 5S Methodology is applicable.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve gone over them in previous Podcasts &#8211; but here&#8217;s a quick review.<\/p>\n<p>Sort (Seiri): This step is where you sort and categorize items &#8211; and separate what is needed \u2013 allowing only the bare essentials needed for operation and removing everything else. The elimination of excessive items frees up space, saves time, improves process flow, and allows staff to operate efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we have &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Straighten or Set in Order (Seiton): This step is arranging items that are needed so that they are easy to locate, transport, use, identify locations for all items so that anyone can find them.
