this podcast is going to be different from most you listen to.\u00a0 It&#8217;s based around exactly what the name implies &#8211; Warehouse Safety Tips.\u00a0 And since the people in that industry are busy &#8211; we know time is money, so each episode will be as short and to the point as possible.<\/p>\n<p>And now that all that is out of the way &#8211; let&#8217;s get to the Podcast!<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\nDo you feel like The Godfather?\u00a0 Just when you THOUGHT you were out, we pulled you back in!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Over the last few weeks &#8211; we&#8217;ve covered all 5 S&#8217;s of the 5S Methodology.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We started with the first S &#8211; which is SORT.\u00a0 Sorting, as it pertains to safety, is determining the things that are essential from the things that are not essential.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Next, we covered the second S &#8211; which is STRAIGHTEN.\u00a0 Straightening, as it pertains to safety, is making everything that&#8217;s essential easily and efficiently accessible.\u00a0 In addition &#8211; it allows for a system of always knowing where those essential items are, who&#8217;s using them, and where they go when no longer needed.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Then, we were at the halfway mark with the third S &#8211; which is SHINE.\u00a0 Shining, as it pertains to safety, is cleaning at regular and efficient intervals.\u00a0 And while doing so, inspecting everything around you to assure everything&#8217;s running properly.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Next, we covered the fourth S &#8211;\u00a0 which is STANDARDIZE.\u00a0 Standardization, as it pertains to safety, is the organization of the first 3 S&#8217;s.\u00a0 It allows you to take sorting, order, and cleaning &#8211; and create routines that ensure all three are being implemented in the safest and efficient manner possible.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And we wrapped up with the fifth S, which is SUSTAIN.\u00a0 Sustaining, as it pertains to safety, is the practice of self-discipline by staff.\u00a0 Sustaining ensures the first 4 S&#8217;s of the 5S Methodology is strictly adhered to.\u00a0 And most important to this, is ensuring staff has a &#8220;Do Without Being Told&#8221; mentality.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The mentality of the 5S Methodology is a constant and never-ending improvement.\u00a0 So it&#8217;s not surprising that even the methodology itself has been improved upon.\u00a0 Over the last several years, an additional S has been added to the 5S Methodology to make it the 6S Methodology.\u00a0 That bonus S is a subject you KNOW we love &#8211; SAFETY!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>All the S&#8217;s are great &#8211; but keeping safety top of mind at ALL times is paramount to keeping yourself and your fellow staff safe.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Remember the &#8220;Do Without Being Told&#8221; mentality of the fifth S &#8211; SUSTAIN?\u00a0 Safety has to be that way as well.\u00a0 Examples of this would be things like &#8211; removing your PPE, skipping a safety procedure, removing a guard that makes a job difficult to perform, or walking through an area you&#8217;re not supposed to be in.\u00a0 You might THINK you&#8217;re getting over on management and\/or getting away with something just because management doesn&#8217;t see you do it &#8211; but, you&#8217;re only endangering yourself and your fellow staff.\u00a0 We HAVE to weave safety into every aspect of the 5S Methodology in order for it to be maximized.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And who knows?\u00a0 By following these S&#8217;s to the letter (No pun intended) &#8211;
