{"id":969,"date":"2023-02-08T00:45:55","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T00:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/warehousesafetytips.com\/blog\/?p=969"},"modified":"2023-02-08T16:50:42","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T16:50:42","slug":"warehouse-safety-tips-episode-164-the-5s-methodology-sustain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/warehousesafetytips.com\/blog\/warehouse-safety-tips-episode-164-the-5s-methodology-sustain\/","title":{"rendered":"Warehouse Safety Tips | Episode 164 | The 5S Methodology- Sustain"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>The 5S Methodology &#8211; Sustain<\/h1>\n<h2><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The 5S Methodology - Sustain | Warehouse Safety Tips\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/797057987?h=e0b728b440&amp;badge=0&amp;autopause=0&amp;player_id=0&amp;app_id=58479\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/h2>\n<h2>The 5S Methodology &#8211; Sustain<\/h2>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>On today&#8217;s podcast, we&#8217;ll be talking about the fifth &#8220;S&#8221; of the 5S Methodology &#8211; Sustain.<\/p>\n<p>So &#8211; stay tuned.<\/p>\n<p>You can find the show notes to each episode, links to the information mentioned on the podcast, the social media platforms we&#8217;re on, and anything else related to the podcast at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/warehousesafetytips.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WarehouseSafetyTips.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a seasoned Podcast Listener, this podcast will be different from most you listen to.\u00a0 It&#8217;s based on exactly what the name implies &#8211; Warehouse Safety Tips.\u00a0 And since the people in that industry are busy &#8211; we know time is money so each episode will be as short and to the point as possible.<\/p>\n<p>And now that all that is out of the way &#8211; let&#8217;s get to the Podcast!<\/p>\n<p>The 5S Methodology &#8211; Sustain<\/p>\n<p>Over the last couple of weeks &#8211; we&#8217;ve been taking a birdseye view of The 5S Methodology.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a quick wrap-up of what we&#8217;ve covered so far.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>In Episode 159, we touched on the origins of 5S.<\/li>\n<li>In Episode 160, we covered Sort.\u00a0 As it applies to 5S, sorting involves going through your work areas and facility and determining what&#8217;s essential and non-essential.<\/li>\n<li>In Episode 161, we covered Straighten (AKA &#8211; Set In Order).\u00a0 As it applies to 5S, straightening involves making everything essential quickly and efficiently accessible.\u00a0 It also entails making sure items are organized by priority of use.<\/li>\n<li>In Episode 162, we covered Shine.\u00a0 As it applies to 5S, shining involves cleaning at regular and efficient intervals.\u00a0 It also allows you to ensure everything in your workplace is operating correctly and efficiently.<\/li>\n<li>In Episode 163, we covered Standardize.\u00a0 As it applies to 5s, standardization is the organization of the first 3 Ss.\u00a0 It takes sorting, setting in order, and shining &#8211; and puts systematic routines into place, ensuring all three are implemented most safely and efficiently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p>And that brings us to this week.\u00a0 Today, we&#8217;re covering the fifth &#8220;S&#8221;, SUSTAIN.\u00a0 As it pertains to 5S, sustaining is the practice of self-discipline by staff.\u00a0 Last week when covering standardization &#8211; we stated it was the organization of the first 3 S&#8217;s.\u00a0 Sustaining adds another component to that organization by ensuring the 5S Methodology is strictly adhered to.\u00a0 And most important to this is ensuring staff has a &#8220;Do Without Being Told&#8221; mentality.<\/p>\n<p>When you follow this and the other 4 S&#8217;s of the 5S Methodology &#8211; you internalize a mentality of constant and never-ending improvement of workplaces &#8211; and by association, entire\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/facilities.you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">facilities.
