If you’re a seasoned Podcast Listener – this podcast is going to be different from most you listen to. It’s based around exactly what the name implies – Warehouse Safety Tips. And since the people in that industry are busy – we know time is money, so each episode will be as short and to the point as possible. And now that all that is out of the way – let’s get to the Podcast!

On one of our previous Podcasts – we spoke about 3 Point Safety.

What are the 3 points of “3 Point Safety”?

One – you have tools, equipment, products, and/or services you use.

Two – you’re provided training on how to properly use them.

Three – you follow the training.

It’s really as easy as 1,2,3.

And it repeats over and over again.

Today we’re going to take a look at the First Point – tools, equipment, products, and/or service. And more specifically – Safety Floor Markings and Signs.

Imagine if the area you live in all of the sudden had all the lines taken off the roads, all the traffic signs removed, all the traffic and light poles taken down, and maps and/or GPS were non existent.

The utter confusion, chaos, and accidents that would occur, would be overwhelming!

Now apply the same thing to your workplace.

The lack of Safety Floor Markings and Signs would bring the same amount of confusion, chaos, and accidents.

Before moving on – here’s a word from one of our sponsors. If you’ve ever been to or worked in a warehouse – you know just how important safety is to both management and staff. It’s almost impossible to go 10 steps without seeing Safety Tape, Angles, Signs, and/or products.

It’s these items that show us how to be safe and avoid danger in the workplace. And if you’re looking for the best products to make this happen – look no further than Mighty Line!

Now back to the Podcast…

In the first part of this Podcast we proposed the idea of taking away ALL the Safety Floor Markings and Signs in the workplace – and imagined the amount of confusion, chaos, and accidents doing so would cause.

Now – take a moment and do a mental walk around your facility.

Think about where the tape, footprints, angles, and/or other Safety Floor Markings are – and while you’re imagining them, think about what color they are. Just like the lines, signs, and lights of your neighborhood – unless part of special areas, they’re probably green, yellow, and red. And just like your neighborhood – those colors mean the exact same thing. Green means an area is safe, yellow indicates caution and attention needs to be applied, and red means you need to stop.

In addition to what’s currently in your facility – do you ever see an area where something is potentially marked incorrectly and/or is in need of marking? As part of 5S – you should always be in the mindset of constant and never ending improvement. So if you see something that’s in need of attention – be sure to bring it up to your supervisor.

And although we’ll be addressing points two and three of 3 Point Safety on future Podcasts – be sure to always know why Safety Markings and Signs are in place, and most importantly implement that knowledge to keep you, the staff, and your facility safe, organized, and productive.
