Shine For Safety
On today’s podcast – we’re going to be talking about the third S of the 5S Methodology – SHINE. So stay tuned.
If you’re a seasoned Podcast Listener – this podcast is going to be different from most you listen to. It’s based around exactly what the name implies – Warehouse Safety Tips. And since the people in that industry are busy – we know time is money, so each episode will be as short and to the point as possible.

And now that all that is out of the way – let’s get to the Podcast!

If you’ve been following along with us – you know we’ve been going over the 5 S’s of the 5S Methodology.
We started with the first S – which is SORT.  Sorting, as it pertains to safety, is determining the things that are essential from the things that are not essential.
Last week, we covered the second S – which is STRAIGHTEN.  Straightening, as it pertains to safety, is making everything that’s essential easily and efficiently accessible.  In addition – it allows for a system of always knowing where those essential items are, who’s using them, and where they go when no longer needed.
This week we’re at the halfway mark with the third S – which is SHINE.  As we mentioned in our teaser last week, this step goes beyond simply cleaning.  Shining, as it pertains to safety, is cleaning at regular and efficient intervals.  In addition – it’s examining what you’re cleaning, to assure everything in your workplace is operating correctly and efficiently.  By doing this – you can alert the proper people at your facility as to what needs to be addressed.  This could be everything from hearing an odd sound to seeing an oil leak.  The overall goal is to catch issues before they escalate.
Having a clean workplace makes things run smoothly, safely, and efficiently – and that’s what we want to see in our facilities.
Next week what we’re going to be talking about is the next step, which is STANDARDIZE.  So stay tuned!
Before moving on – here’s a word from one of our sponsors.
